Dear Mr. Carter,
I’ll get right to the point. As you spew your disgusting commentary and once again show your anti-Semitic ways by saying that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the origins of Islamist violence, let me remind you of what is actually one of the main origins of modern-day Islamist violence. The failed presidency of one James Earl Carter, Jr.
Back when Iran was in the midst of radical change, you did nothing. When Iran kidnapped more than 60 Americans in Tehran in 1979, you were powerless to get these hostages released. Your failures empowered the beginning of Iran’s worldwide Islamic revolution, a revolution based in violence and terror. To be quite frank Mr. Carter, Muslims should hate you for this as well. You set the stage for what has been nothing short of an ongoing catastrophic disaster. While Americans languished as hostages for 14 months, all you offered were reasons and excuses for why you did nothing. You failed the hostages, you failed your country, and you failed the world. Instead of owning up to your failings back then, you have chosen to once again fail everything that is sacred. Most of all the truth. I guess you feel that you would rather align yourself with terrorists today than admit to the world that you emboldened them.
It is rare that I am this disturbed when I write one of my Open Letters, and once again it is my respect for the United States, its government, and the office of the President that tempers my verbal attack on you, but make no mistake. It is not based on any respect I have for you, for I have none. Rumor has it that you are an intelligent man, so I can only assume your words come from cowardice and bigotry. Either way they are words many consider to be disgraceful coming from a former American president. You were an embarrassment to the office then, and you continue to be one today.

With the midterm election results just hours away, Republicans and Democrats everywhere are hopeful their candidate will come out victorious. We know that leaders on both sides declare their loyalty to the party and in most cases they probably mean it. With one possible exception. The presidential hopeful.
The argument can be made that whatever party takes control of the Senate will not be the party that wins the White House in 2016. It may be pessimistic on my part to feel this way, but there’s no real reason to feel confident that things will get that much better over the next 2 years. It’s likely that if things continue to go south, this growing trend of reactionary voting will only pick up more steam. If that’s the case you have to believe that somewhere not that far in the back of Hillary Clinton’s mind she’s not all that devastated with the thought of today being a big day for Republicans.
There’s just too much work to do for anyone to be that hopeful things will look that much better 2 years from now. Whatever party controls the Senate is more likely to suffer more backlash than that caused by one man in the White House. That’s why it’s not crazy to predict that whatever party has a bigger day is the party that loses the presidency in 2016. Plus the Republicans are pushing the idea that reestablishing their dominance in government will make your life better. It may or may not be the case down the road, but it won’t be in time to help the next Republican candidate. Based on many news reports indicating a big day for the GOP, that may very well mean the big winner in the Democratic Party coming out of today’s elections will be Hillary Clinton.

Either Vice President Joe Biden isn’t running for president in 2016, or he is and just doesn’t care if he wins or loses. When you are on the edge of showing a toughness and a clarity displayed by his initial statements last week and then you backtrack, you’ve made a critical political blunder.
Last week Biden made the following statements regarding the involvement of the United Arab Emirates and Turkey in the growth of ISIS.
“They poured hundreds of millions of dollars and thousands of tons of weapons into anyone who would fight against Assad. Except that the people who were being supplied were al-Nusra and al Qaeda and the extremist elements of jihadis coming from other parts of the world,”
In regard to Turkey he said the following: “President (Recep Tayyip) Erdogan told me … ‘You were right. We let too many people (including foreign fighters) through.’ Now they are trying to seal their border.”
When UAE and Turkey got all bent out of shape, VP Biden apologized to the 2 countries for saying they are partly to blame for the growth and development of ISIS. But was he wrong? Have these countries really done anything other than facilitate their development? Is Turkey not more focused on showing venomous hatred for Israel than they are on not letting ISIS recruits travel through their borders?
At a time where the populations of countries in the western world are desperately looking for strong leadership, Joe Biden stood up and said what needed to be said. Then the 2 countries he said it to got mad and he apologized. So close Joe. Oh so close. It’s a lot like a school teacher trying to break up a fight in an out of control class, reprimanding the instigators of the fight, and then apologizing to these very same instigators when they get upset at him for the reprimand. He almost took the necessary and strong action, he just decided against it when challenged.
Unfortunately the end result makes someone who came close to displaying the strength we need in these difficult times look very weak instead. But he almost did what he needed to do. Almost.

No matter what you call the terror group now running an area of land the size of Belgium, the one thing you must call them is Islamic. I wish this was the worst of it, but the whole name thing is making me a little crazy. First they were called ISIS:The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Then they were called ISIL:The Islamic State of Syria and the Levant. Finally they are IS:TheIslamic State. Or are they? Depends on who you listen to. Even then pronunciations seem to change.
In the beginning everyone called them ISIS, pronouncing it as one word sounding almost identical to the English world Ices. Back then, when the administration saw them as the JV(Junior Varsity) team, they went along with calling them ISIS as well. Even when the terrorists started calling themselves ISIL, initially most people still called them ISIS. Now however, the administration has such an insistence on calling them ISIL they won’t even acknowledge the name ISIS when mentioned. What makes it even more bizarre, or even irritating is that the President and Secretary of State call the group ISIL and pronounce close to the English words, ICE-ILL, while the President’s Press Secretary and Pentagon Spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby spell it out, referring to them as I-S-I-L. This all creates an annoying distraction at press conferences. A CNN reporter might ask: “What’s the next move against ISIS (ICES)?” Then, depending on who answers, “We must degrade and destroy ISIL(ICE-ILL) or I-S-I-L.” One area in which the administration is coordinated though is that they never respond using the name ISIS anymore.
Despite the theories from those most suspicious of the President’s motives, I don’t believe the insistence on calling it ISIL is based on something dangerously devious, rather an acknowledgment that it is a threat to a greater area, since the IL covers significant more territory than the IS. The last IS that is. The first IS, whether you call it ISIS or ISIL stands for Islamic, which means very simply this group is an Islamic group, no matter what anyone including the President might want you to believe. And more importantly, no matter what you call them, they are very dangerous. This is a war. Oh wait. Not sure if that’s what it’s being called either. It just might also depend on who you ask. At least I hope what we have now is a coordinated effort to conduct this whatever they’re calling it against whatever it is they call them.

July 8, 2014 was the day Israel began Operation Protective Edge. After countless missile attacks with no end in sight and the kidnapping and murder of 3 Yeshiva students by Hamas, Israel finally had enough. It began with airstrikes and turned into a ground operation. Once Israel discovered the terror tunnels, they were committed to staying in Gaza till each and every one was destroyed. Over 2,000 people died during the operation, a large percentage of which were Palestinian civilians. Awful. Just awful. Especially if the first day of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was July 8, 2014.
However, despite what Palestinian leadership, the Turkish President, Russell Brand, Bryan Adams and millions of Muslims everywhere want you to believe, this conflict did not begin this past July 8th. If you are to look at the events that took place from July 8, 2014 without going back further, you may see Israel as being a lopsided aggressor. Even then you need to choose to ignore how Hamas uses its people as human shields. If however you look at the months, years and decades leading up to this operation you see a completely different story. The true story.
I could go back to 1929 and speak of the Hebron massacre when Jews were slaughtered by Muslims prior to any establishment of a Jewish state. We could talk about how after the United Nations in 1948 partitioned land for the new Jewish State of Israel, of which the West Bank and Gaza was not included, and how all the surrounding Arab nations attacked it in am attempt to wipe out the Jews and finish Hitler’s work. We could talk about how the West Bank belonged to Jordan but Jordan didn’t want it back because they didn’t want to deal with the residents. We could also talk about how Egypt controlled Gaza and never wanted it back for the same reason or how Israel withdrew from Gaza and gave it every opportunity to develop into something special, but instead allowed Hamas to take over and drive it into the ground.
We could talk about the civilians Israel killed while aiming at missile launchers or we could talk about the thousands of Israelis killed in terrorist attacks. We could talk about a blockade or bombing of a hospital shielding Hamas missiles, or we could talk about how entire families were blown up in Pizza places and malls by people who were proud to kill as many Jews as possible. I could go back to Yasser Arafat, the Godfather of terrorism and hijacked planes, murdered passengers and the murder of Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics. I could go back to 3 murdered Yeshiva boys.
But none of the matters if you want Israel to look like the aggressor, because when you do you only go back as far as July 8, 2014. If you go back any further you might have to admit that Israel has every right to defend itself. Something it has always been forced to do and has become so good at doing it now gets criticized for it. It’s the greatest lie of omission you will ever see. It pretends nothing ever happened before July 8, 2014. And too many people are believing it.

Dear Mr. Carter,
For a long time I shied away from writing you this letter. Seeing as you are a former President of the United States I imagine I am restricted at some of the things I am allowed to say to you, certainly in the manner in which I say them. Despite that I will speak to you openly and will temper my remarks out of the respect I have for the rule of law in the United States of America.
Even your biggest critics and detractors have never doubted your intellectual capacity. Your comments and sentiments can’t be chalked up to just being an ignorant peanut farmer. Some people believe age has caught up to your mind and that a degree of dementia has set in. I think that is an unfair thing to say, especially in light of the fact that the culpability you try to apply to Israel is more as a result of your botched policies 35 years ago when you were a much younger man, and incidentally and sadly, the American president.
If I thought you were merely a dumb man, I believe I would be a little less disturbed by your frequent anti-Zionist rantings and I would be more amused instead. However, the anti-Zionist/anti-Semitic statements you frequently and exuberantly make are deliriously and cleverly mixed with language that makes the less educated and open-minded people of the world susceptible to your misinformation.
Let’s be honest here Mr. Carter. Had you not mishandled the Iranian revolution in epic fashion, the worst problems we face today may not ever have existed. Had you shown the strength and character to address the Muslim uprising back then in the manner you should have, the people of Gaza who you pretend to care for so much would not be controlled by the corrupt iron fist of an Iranian puppet.
I know you feel the best solution to the world’s problems is a lot of dead Jews, but as one of those Jews I find your approach to be a disgrace to America, to good Christians everywhere, and to the special and respected office you once held.
I know you find your own opinions to be fascinating, but please keep in mind that a long time back they weren’t even impressive enough to win you a second term in office.
I wish you health and a long life, I just hope I don’t have to hear what you have to say anymore.

Dear Mr. President,
Please allow me to start by saying that I write this letter to you with the utmost respect for the office you hold and will therefore address you accordingly. However, as a citizen of the United States and as a Jewish American exercising my right to free speech I intend to speak on some issues I find both concerning and disappointing.
I am by no means your usual critic. I am a Democrat and a social Liberal who voted for you twice. I’ve defended your performance and I’ve verbally attacked those I have felt were opposed to your presidency for inappropriate reasons. I have been aware and willing to speak out against those whose criticism seemed to be a smokescreen for racial bias caused by the color of your skin or your middle name. I have recognized that you have encountered serious opposition from the House of Representatives and Senate often making your job more difficult than it would normally be. I say all this to emphasize that I, as a citizen and a supporter, have been more than fair in my personal judgments. So with that in mind you will understand that this is not a letter from a Conservative Republican that would have found very little favor in your performance, nor is it from a racist that would have found none at all. This is a letter from someone who has been somewhat of a supporter and defender of you and your efforts over the past 6 years.
Even as I write this letter I hold out hope that the issues I find disturbing do not tell the whole story and that you are doing things behind the scenes that would explain their logic and benefit, and that I, as someone with no understanding of the inner working of politics would have no way of knowing what actually is the true reality. I accept that as a possibility, but with the information that I do have available and with my somewhat limited understanding, I will share with you my major concerns, specifically with your administration’s foreign policy.
My biggest concern has been with the administration’s approach towards Islamic extremism. I understand and will not question your acknowledgment of people of all faiths. It is a commendable sentiment and in a perfect world people of all faiths can live side by side with dignity and respect. However, as you are fully aware, not everyone in the world is pursuing that same utopia. I do not think for one second that you are not aware of the threat ISIS and other terrorist organizations pose to the free world, but as a citizen observing your actions or inaction toward their development and growth, I respectfully question your strategy. I can understand your reluctance to engage in military conflict unless completely necessary, what I am questioning, as are many other Americans, is at what point do you actually deem it necessary? The humanitarian mission recently carried out in Iraq was a commendable one and it was easy to see the necessity there, but at what point is action taken to eliminate a serious threat to America and its allies? ISIS has taken over land, weapons, and large sums of cash with what appears to be little to no resistance. I understand not getting involved in the internal problems of other countries, but it seems abundantly clear that ISIS is not merely a problem that will remain isolated to the region. Are we to wait until they do attack us on American soil? I am sure you feel as we all do, that waiting for that to happen is unacceptable. I just don’t see what is being done to prevent that.
There are those on the far right that not only question your tactics in dealing with Muslim extremism, but your motives as well. I am under the assumption and belief that you mean to do what is best for the country even if I question your methods. This is what baffles me most about your dealings with Israel. I am not alone in feeling at least some degree of abandonment and betrayal towards Israel and the Jewish people. I recognize some of the support you have given to Israel, particularly in the funding of Iron Dome, but some of the actions taken by the administration as well as some of the statements made, have been anything but positive. I have often said, in an attempt to be fair and objective, that the Jewish people need to understand that you were elected President of the United States, not Prime Minister of Israel. But knowing that as I do, I am baffled that you would not put your complete support behind Israel, the country most likely to fight an enemy not only committed to its destruction, but to America’s destruction as well.
Mr. President, I know that compared to the ocean that is your set of accomplishments in life I am a mere drop of water. I also know that I do not match up to you intellectually. That being said I am still an American with a voice and an opinion that is shared by many other Americans. Our opinion deserves to be considered. As a Jew who has lost a significant degree of faith in your friendship towards the Jewish people, I ask you to recognize Israel’s need for support in combating not only its enemy, but America’s as well. Most of all, I ask you to tell us how you intend to keep us and future generations safe from enemies that appear to be growing with little resistance.

“Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, read history. They elected Hitler”-Rudy Giuliani responding to the statement that the people of Gaza elected Hamas.
You can be a humanitarian or a bigot if you so choose, but you can’t be both. When you’ve fooled people into believing you are a humanitarian you better understand that is a term that applies to all human beings, not just the ones you like. If you’re an ex-President of the United States of America you better understand that your words hold some weight and therefore can impact future events.
We may be able to argue that Jimmy Carter is and always was inept, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he is also dangerous. It is people like him, anti-Semites who enable terrorists, that have till now and still do, lay the groundwork for the deaths of countless innocent civilians. I have heard Democrats blame George W. Bush for the 9/11 attacks and Republicans blame Bill Clinton, but I always maintained the only one to blame is Osama bin-Laden. However, if you really want to give some of the fault to an American president you can blame Jimmy Carter. It goes much deeper than the debacle of leadership he showed during the Iranian revolution. Jimmy Carter’s support and friendship with PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat was the most high-profile acceptance of a terrorist by any American president in the nation’s history. In doing this Jimmy Carter strengthened the PLO, legitimized terrorism, and set the groundwork for the growth of future terrorist organizations.
So Mr. Carter, you are not a humanitarian at all. What you are is a hypocrite. You have used the guise of humanitarianism to push your agenda, an agenda that has always been anti-Israel and anti-Semitic. Your relationship with Hamas is an easy one to understand. They hide behind children to attack Israel, you hide behind humanitarianism. You speak words that fraudulently portray you as a decent man, when in reality there is a lot of blood on your hands. In opening your mouth again you clearly are hoping for more, and I have no doubt the blood you prefer is Jewish blood.

In the name of integrity I must start by confessing that I voted for this administration twice. So when I criticize its actions I also on some levels criticize my choice. Be that as it may, there are many issues to consider when analyzing an American administration’s attitude towards Israel. In fairness it needs to be said that the United States of America has always been a friend of Israel’s, and the funding of Iron Dome under the Obama presidency clearly needs to be appreciated. With that said, why is Israel’s most important friend trying to push it towards unacceptable agreements with a terrorist organization? There are 3 possible reasons and none of them make the U.S. look good nor are they helpful to the overall situation.
The first possibility, and clearly the most cynical one, is that a President who is a master fundraiser is in some ways fundraising by showing poor support for Israel. When we hear that Qatar, a wealthy nation with money to burn, is supporting Hamas, it has to be considered that they are using their financial clout to influence the president and this government. With a U.S. economy floundering and an Arab nation with the potential ability to hold financial leverage over many people, companies and even nations, the power of money can’t be ignored. I stop short of making accusations of personal financial corruption because such claims being made without evidence is irresponsible, but to say that Qatar can use its money for influence is not only accurate, but realistic.
The second possibility, which is one that many Jews and supporters of Israel gravitate towards is a dislike for Israel, particularly towards Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. I won’t analyze this because the actions are very clear and out in the open, and since some are supportive of Israel and some are not, without a clear declaration of intent we just don’t know how Obama and his cabinet feels. I can only hold out hope that there is enough competence in this administration to at least make decisions based on assessment on what is the best move and not on personal likes or dislikes. We just can’t be sure.
The third choice, and the one I will go on record as thinking is the most likely one, is fear. Fear on many levels. Fear of escalation, fear of confrontation, fear of terrorist reprisals on U.S. soil, but most of all basic fear of the enemy. I know there are those who will read this that feel President Barack Obama is complicit with Islamic fundamentalists, but for the sake of sanity I will work from the assumption that this president does not intend to destroy the United States and western civilization. I do however feel that he is scared of the consequences connected with opposing Muslim fundamentalists. It shows with his inaction in Iraq, where the rise of ISIS may be the single most dangerous thing happening on the planet today, it shows with his approach towards Iran and North Korea, and it shows with his lack of conviction against Hamas, a terrorist organization very capable of organizing attacks on the United States in the future.
Here’s the concerning catch to all of this. Despite the fact that blaming it on fear is less cynical and callous than the other choices, it may be the most dangerous. An American government working from fear gives strength to the forces of evil that previously were held in check by this great country. If America as a nation shows fear, it emboldens the enemy, and once they get too strong there may be no turning back.

I am an American, and truly believe that as a whole we’re a good bunch. With all my flaws I am by no means qualified to say otherwise, but since I don’t want my words to be misinterpreted, I happily begin by complimenting my fickle countrymen for their basic decency and kindness.
As we look back to the recent presidential election, I can’t help but sense that an election fatigue has set in. Going back to when the Republicans had what was close to a football team on the debate stage, till the final contest in which the incumbent President Barack Obama defeated his Republican challenger Mitt Romney, the process has been so long I truly believe many are happy it is over. Even those on the winning side.
The good thing about the timing of the election was that it came just in time to help deal with Disaster fatigue. Please forgive me if this comes across cynical. That is not my intention. I do not believe that most people who felt bad at the peak of Superstorm Sandy no longer feel bad. I do however feel that many are less fascinated by the news reports than they were in the immediate days that followed.
All these stories not only continue, but they continue to be important and relevant. The presidential election in of itself is not as important as what gets done moving forward. Everyone knows we have a big mess on our hands and that the President, together with the Senate and Congress need to move into action and get things on the right track. But enough about the election now. It’s old news.
Hurricane Sandy in many ways is two stories. The first story was the immediate storm and the drama and serious impact it had. The second story, the more serious one, is the story of the people who have suffered and still suffer as a result of the storm. This is a story that unfortunately will continue for quite some time. People are homeless, hungry and cold. They are frustrated and despondent and will be needing help for a very long time. But the story of the storm itself, the floods, fires, storm surges, well that’s old news now.
Gas shortages and long lines is becoming old news as well. Unless of course fights break out while people wait in line. Then the news becomes exciting again. We are a sensationalist society and when the story loses its sensationalism the public loses some interest. That doesn’t mean we become uncaring. There are so many good people, people better than me, who give so much time to help those in need. It’s just that unfortunately people’s suffering is never really news. It doesn’t go away and being that it is a constant, loses its headline status.
Part of the biggest challenge facing us is to see to it that when these stories lose front page stature they don’t lose their importance. It is incumbent on anyone with any audience, even a small one, to seek out and find the stories of those who need help.
