The 9/11 Scenarios and WWIII

TRIPOLI AIRPORT DAMAGE

WARNING: Some may find the content of this article very disturbing.

As 9/11 approaches, tensions always rise.  This year however, the tensions are even higher than in previous years.  With the emergence of ISIS and growing Jihadist movements in nations like Somalia, Nigeria and Libya, the fear that there will be attempts on western interests and cities has increased significantly.

The big question always is, how do you distinguish between credible threats and sensationalist theories? At what point does it become too much.  Yes we all need to be vigilant, but we also need to be careful that we don’t make everyone crazy.  This is an issue I am considering even as I write this piece. At what point am I going from providing a service to doing damage to the morale of good people?

There are two types of people making statements.  Those with sources and knowledge, and those with theories and ideas.  I fall into the second category. When I discuss this coming September 11th I do so based on what I see, what I think, and what theories I believe to be realistic and often even likely. Personally, and I know I am not alone on this one, I see this September 11th as being the most dangerous one since the attacks in 2001.  We have already been attacked by ISIS through the very murders of 2 American journalists. But with some of the theories out there, as the day approaches it becomes more and more difficult to feel safe.

The first of the 2 most prominent concerns is the report that states that information was recovered from a laptop indicating that Muslim terrorists were looking to create a way of weaponizing the Bubonic plague, something that could result in horrifying deaths in mass numbers.  The second of the concerns revolves around the report that as many as 11, yes I said 11 commercial airlines have gone missing from the airport in Tripoli, Libya, a city recently capture by Jihadists.  If this is the case, and there are 11 enormous weapons out there with their sights on population centers, the potential outcome is indeed terrifying.  It is at this point in writing I decided to place a warning in the beginning of the piece, because as I write this I too feel intense fear at what might happen.  To be honest, even if it is attempted and thwarted it is still terrifying.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again.  World War III has already begun. However, since it is unlike the first 2 World Wars it is very difficult to clearly identify it for what it is.  But I will try to simplify it.  Muslim extremism is attempting to take over the world and to do so as violently as possible.  There is an enemy that is taking it to everyone, and only the amount of deaths is what stands in the way of people calling this a World War.  A detail I believe they have every intention of trying to change very soon.  This is not Islamophobia, this is fact based on their own admissions and actions.  I believe it is accelerating a little faster than they wanted it to, but if the world doesn’t take appropriate action, it won’t matter if they were ready to move forward or not.  I hope I am wrong.  I hope, no I pray to God that nothing happens on September 11, that Israel will be safe, and that the good countries of the world work together to stem the tide of hatred and violence.  But if I am right, God help us all.

Should we show the gruesome images?

1408572490517_Image_galleryImage_sotloff_jpgThere has been some discussion after the most recent beheading of an American journalist that displaying the images is counterproductive.  I considered the argument credible enough to address it and wanted to speak on the subject and welcome the debate.

Yesterday after the news broke that journalist Steven Sotloff had been murdered in the same gruesome fashion that James Foley had been murdered, I posted the news together with an image of Sotloff next to an ISIS terrorist seemingly moments before his murder.  There are those who feel that displaying such images gives ISIS exactly what they are looking for, notoriety, attention, and a lot of frightened people.  I will be honest.  I’m on the fence regarding this issue.  With that said it is easy for me to make both sides of the argument.

ISIS, or ISIL, appears to be in some ways as literal as any terrorist group we’ve ever seen. What I mean by that is that their number one weapon of choice is fear.  They are literally focused on pushing their agenda by generating as much fear and terror as they possibly can.  More than likely it explains how they blitzed across Northern Iraq to a crumbling Iraqi army.  They want to terrorize every American watching and want to instill fear into every civilized person on the planet.  The videos and photos they release are designed to create that effect, and it can be argued that displaying them plays right into their hands.

The other side of the argument is that the display of the images and videos changes nothing other than awareness.  Awareness may manifest itself in horror, but we must ask ourselves this question.  Is it better to be horrified and aware of an impending danger or peacefully ignorant to its existence? Granted there is a middle ground.  We can be aware without being terrified. But fear is an emotion we can control.  If we actually see those images and or videos and rather than being afraid we become angry and determined, an argument can be made that the displays actually backfired on the terrorists.

I’m not really sure what is correct.  I clearly lean towards the second option as evidenced in the photograph I displayed yesterday, but I am so uncertain and respectful of the other opinion that I have chosen a different picture today.   It’s a fluid situation as I expect my feelings on the subject will be as well.

Open Letter to Lady Gaga

Lady-Gaga-7Dear Lady Gaga,

The reason I write to you today is very simple.  I am an American Jew and a Zionist. I am also very active in blogging and in social media in providing whatever support I can for Israel and the Jewish people at a very difficult and scary time. I have attempted to reach a number of celebrities through my use of Open Letters.  Most of these letters are letters in which I harshly criticize these “stars” for their very blatant anti-Zionist and anti-Semitic stance.  To be quite frank with you it sometimes becomes a bit draining.  It often feels like I am banging my head against a wall when I try to wake people up to how their political viewpoints and so-called humanitarian stances are really just prejudice against Jews.  So thanks to you I have an opportunity for once to write a more pleasant letter, and seeing how I always have enjoyed your music and style anyway, I decided to take advantage of this opportunity.

In my last paragraph I referred to these people as “stars”, using quotation marks to make the point that many of these people are shells of their former celebrity selves with their careers on downturns.  That is part of why I am so intrigued and grateful to you.  You are still as true star.  Your talent has not diminished, your fan base is still growing, and you never have and never will pander to a certain group because you have nothing better to do or nowhere else to achieve your fame.  You are a real and genuine individual with real and genuine ideals.  A large percentage of the people who read my work fall into the category of Conservative so I am sure they don’t agree with your stance on certain issues, but in this world where evil and hatred are gaining a strong foothold, I hope they recognize your actions in standing behind Israel are a shining light in a darkening world.

Don’t you find it interesting that the supporters of Israel like myself only get mad at those who hate Israel and the Jews while those on the other side get mad at you for not hating Israel?  I would never be mad at you for showing compassion for anyone, as long as you continue your fair and clear-minded treatment of Israel and the Jewish people.

I also hope your actions wake up those who seem to have tolerance for everything other than the most free and democratic society in the Middle East.  I don’t know if your enlightenment is based on studying and understanding issues or you were just “Born this way”, but whatever it is I thank you and hope you have the time of your life performing in Tel-Aviv.

Thank you again.

Sincerely,

David Groen

P.S. When I write the nasty letters I try to find the ugliest pics of the people I write to, but in your case I picked this one because I think you look super cute.

Like the Judenrat, these Journalists wound up dead

judenratLet me start by being very clear.  These journalists did not deserve this fate. They were brutally murdered by savages who have no respect for human life and will do anything no matter how vile it may be  to further an agenda.  They will murder and torture people to achieve their goal of global domination. They are in many ways similar to the Nazis, with one terrifying distinction.   They put as little value on their own life as they do on others.  That makes them harder to stop.  So my hearts go out to the families of these two journalists and I hope they both rest in peace.

However, there is another point that needs to be made here and one that draws another comparison to the horrors committed by Nazi Germany.  When the Nazis occupied Europe they were able to find Jewish people willing to be members of the “Judenrat”, the Jewish committees set up to administrate the activities and fates of the bulk of the Jewish populations.  Many of the Judenrat’s members believed that by working with the Nazis they would suffer a better fate than those whose deportation and subsequent murder they were facilitating.  It was not till most of their work had been completed that most of them would come to realize that they indeed would suffer the same fate and would be murdered at the hands of the Nazis.

It has been reported that both James Foley and Steven Sotloff were sympathetic to the Islamist cause.  Perhaps they too felt that by showing a degree of solidarity and support they would be in a better position to survive the new horrors appearing on the horizon.  If that was their vision, and I don’t know that it was, they too were shown to be tragically wrong.  I am not indicting the two journalists by any means.  Their deaths are tragedies and they were committed by barbaric murderers who are capable of unspeakable horrors.  The message I am relaying to everyone is that if indeed people ever believe that by supporting Islamic extremists you are safe, understand that you will end up as safe as the members of the Judenrat and these 2 journalists.

As Winston Churchill once said: “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.” I hope James Foley and Steven Sotloff rest in peace, I also hope the world learns a lesson from their murders.

ISIS releases video of beheading of Steven Sotloff

ISIS397_20140902_132540Just a few weeks removed from the beheading of journalist James Foley, ISIS has released a new video, this time showing the beheading of journalist Steven Sotloff.  It appears as though ISIS does indeed have a strategy which is to publicly display their horrific behavior whenever possible.  Less than 10 days away from September 11th this sends another message of how dangerous these people truly are and how the administration better come up with a strategy soon.

An Open Letter of Appreciation to the Christian Community

120810091855-jerusalem-skyline-story-topMy dear friends,

From time to time I refer to the words of my mother, a 92-year-old Holocaust survivor from Holland who compares what is happening today to 1938 Europe.  I always respond the same way, focusing on the fact that the very existence of the State of Israel makes this dangerous and frightening time unlike any other time in the past 2,000 years of Jewish history.  There are other factors I refer to as differentiating today from 1938 such as the tremendous leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu and the countless amount of Jews with the thought of “Never Again” ingrained into their very soul.  There is one other difference from 1938 and it is not only not to be overlooked, it may turn out to be the most important difference in the long-term struggle for survivor.  That difference is the unwavering support of the Christian community.

I am Jewish.  Although my personal conviction doesn’t always translate into behaviors consistent with my beliefs, I believe in the Jewish religion.  It was how I was raised and although I often question the dogma, it is still the religion my life at least to some extent revolves around.  However, I am very grateful for being raised with a respect for those who believe in different things than I do, even if and when I do not agree with them.  I have had very close friends with whom I have had some very enjoyable religious debates. What I always came away with from those debates, and is more evident to me today than during any other time in my life, is that if you truly believe in God, a God that created man in his image and is a God of love and mercy, there is no room for hate, destruction and violence.  I know that as I write this there are some of the more extreme within the Jewish community that are asking if I am unaware of the past.  The answer is that I am very aware of the past, however I am even more aware of the fact that today’s Christian generally lives by a special and moral standard, and that part of that standard is a love for Israel and the Jewish people.

I had been considering writing this letter for quite some time, but it was not till tonight when I saw an interview done by Bill Maher of Benjamin Netanyahu that I felt inspired to get it done(CLICK HERE TO WATCH).  When Bill Maher, someone I like but differ from in philosophy when it comes to the discussion of God, tried to compare Muslim extremists desire for a post apocolyptic world to how Christians speak of the end of time, Netanyahu set him straight.  He clarified that the difference is based on 2 important points.  First of all, even when Christians believe there will be an end of time they are not trying to make it happen by blowing people up. And secondly he stated that the biggest difference is that regardless of how extreme their beliefs may be, Christians are sane people.

I am fully aware of the fact that Christians believe that Israel is a critical element in their belief of how the future of the world plays out.  When I say that it is of no importance to me, I say that with the utmost of respect.  It does not mean that I have anything other than respect for how you feel and what you believe, what it means is that all I care about as a Jew and a Zionist who believes in something different, is that your belief now translates into strong and loving support for Israel and the Jewish people.

I believe that the fight, and I believe subsequent war, is one that can only be won if Christians and Jews work together.  I have come across and continue to come across scores of Christians who appear to feel the same way.  My personal gratitude for what I’ve witnessed from my Christian friends specifically over the past few months has been a wonderful enlightenment and has given me hope for the future of the Jewish people and the planet.  As far as what happens next, once we get through this conflict against evil, and with God’s help victoriously, well we will deal with the differences then.  The good news is I am sure we will do so as friends.

Sincerely,

David Groen

Dear Mr. Secretary General

Dear Mr. Secretary General,

United_nations_flagI’ve written a number of Open Letters since the beginning of the most recent attempt at the destruction of the State of Israel.  These letters have primarily been to entertainers who believe they serve a purpose beyond their God-given talents, be it their musical gifts or partial and fleeting good looks and charisma.  You on the other hand hold a position where your very job is to discuss and make some sort of policy declaration regarding events taking place in the international community.  So neither myself nor anyone else should ever state that you are dealing with issues that are none of your concern.  Therefore the tone of this letter will be somewhat different.  Also, since I am sure that there is little to nothing I can actually educate you on regarding the situation in Israel and the Middle East, if anything it may be the other way around, this letter will be far shorter than the others.  Especially since it will focus primarily on one major point. The problem isn’t that you are dealing with issues out of your realm, the problem is that you repeatedly appear to be blind to the truth.

The truth I speak of was made apparent these past few days.  When I sat down to write this I was originally intending to write an editorial rather than a letter.  The original title of the editorial, longer than most titles and I admit somewhat whimsical in nature, makes the point I am hoping you have the fairness and clarity of thought to not only admit to yourself, but to proclaim to the world. The title was going to be, “Protecting the People Accusing them of Crimes against Humanity from the People committing Crimes against Humanity”.  As ISIS or ISIL continue their vicious efforts in the region, and UN peacekeeping troops became threatened, where was it they went to for safety?  The very country your organization spends so much time vilifying.  It has become abundantly clear to anyone who wants to see the truth that ISIS and Hamas are 2 peas in a pod.  Their tactics and intentions are almost identical in nature.  So please explain to me and all those other peace-loving people of the world how you continue to pursue Israel on what you call “crimes against humanity” when they were merely defending themselves against those truly committing “crimes against humanity.  And then ask yourself this one very important and more self-serving question.  If you and your kangaroo court would actually be successful at bringing Israel to its knees, where would your people go then?  I dare say they would either be dead or in captivity by now.

So I propose the following.  Rather than continuing this so-called pursuit of justice against the one true democracy and free society in the region, why don’t you just say thank you and leave Israel alone, regardless of whether or not rich nations like Qatar like it or not.

Sincerely,

David Groen

The Steven Salaita story: Freedom gone mad

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAEarlier in August College Professor Steven Salaita was fired from the job he had seemingly just secured at the University of Illinois. The reason for his firing was remarks he made on Twitter regarding Israel and the 3 murdered Yeshiva students.  There has been some controversy regarding his firing, with the opponents claiming he was punished for exercising his freedom of speech.

What was so bad about what Salaita said and how does it connect to the perversion of the concept of true freedom?  Among other things he said the following:

“Zionists: transforming ‘anti-semitism’ from something horrible into something honorable since 1948.”

And in regard to the kidnapping and murder of the Naftali Frenkel, Eyal Yifrach and Gilad Shaar he tweeted:

“You may be too refined to say it, but I’m not: I wish all the (expletive) West Bank settlers would go missing.”

These comments were made after Salaita was offered the position, so the University’s handling of the situation appears to be somewhat commendable.  I say somewhat commendable because although they did the right thing in rescinding the position, I wonder how someone who has a thought process allowing him to say these types of things was not properly investigated prior to his initial hiring. Even more so I ask how it is that someone whose job is to mold young minds is able to secure positions at institutions of higher learning.  It is also a little concerning that the school felt the need to distinguish that its reason for not wanting Salaita was not that he was anti-Israel, but that after reading his statements they concluded he would be a bad teacher.

The subsequent protests and outrage related to his firing are in line with pretty much every other display of outrage these days.  Somewhere between somewhat and totally insane.  Somehow “intellectuals” seem to think that inciting hatred against Jews by calling anti-semitism honorable is acceptable.  They say it is an exercise in freedom. Is it OK when it incites hatred and violence?  Follow that up with a statement that comes very close to sanctioning the murder of every settler in the West Bank, and you have another example of freedom gone mad.

Freedom is an interesting thing. Earlier today I tweeted the following statement:

“Freedom is not merely for the rebellious who protest but it is due the meek and non-violent as well.”

I came up with that thought while riding on a New York City subway.  I saw an Orthodox Jewish man travelling with 2 children.  He did not portray the image of a man who would fight hard for his freedom, rather he would hope those freedoms would  stay in place so he could continue to live his life as a decent and hard-working family man.  Naturally I have no way of knowing if my split second assessment of this man’s character was accurate, but I do know if I was wrong about him there are certainly people who do fit that description.  Who will defend their freedom while people have the gall to debate if a man like Salaita should have been fired and while change.org puts out a petition to demand the reversal of this “scandalous firing”?  The only thing scandalous is the total perversion of values displayed by those defending this hate monger.

To Steven Salaita I say this.  You are the living embodiment of garbage.  You pervert the entire concept of intellectualism by using it as a mask for anger and hatred.  You lead people to believe your mind is something special and that you therefore deserve some sort of automatic respect.  A great mind is a mind that can find the truth in a pool of lies and that can find love in a sea of hatred.  All you are able to do is express your solidarity with the lies and the hatred.  I not only am happy you got fired, I wish you a lifetime of unemployment.  Either way I am still a better person than a so-called professor that wishes for thousands upon thousands of dead settlers and celebrates the murder of  3 teenage boys.

I’m an American who believes freedom is not given to us to promote evil ideals.  Ideals Steven Salaita proudly calls his own and still gets referred to as Professor.

Another Open Letter to Russell Brand

rus2Dear Russell,

Frankly I am not sure what upsets me more, the fact that you are still talking or the fact that last week the Huffington Post chose to provide you with a forum to regurgitate more of your self-serving ramblings(CLICK HERE TO READ THE OP-ED).   I am glad you think you’re not an anti-Semite because indeed that may be a step in the right direction, but unless you wrote that piece after once again dropping acid, something that in the past gave you your “pro-Jewish” epiphany, you are missing some very important points in your argument.

First of all, there is no fair way to discuss Israel’s military action in Gaza without mentioning the terrorist activities of Hamas.  Not only do you not do that, you never once even mention Hamas.  I maintain, as I did in my last letter to you(CLICK HERE TO READ), that you, like so many others don’t go after terrorist groups as hard as you go after Israel because you know the Israeli government won’t hunt you down and kill you in the street.  Hamas just might.  So conveniently leaving Hamas out of the discussion, and with all the dribble you wrote I am sure it was not a mere oversight, you are once again showing your cowardice.

Here is why mentioning Hamas is so key to the discussion.  You claim the actions by Israel are based in the economic gains of a right-wing government aligned with right-wing institutions in other parts of the world.  You do not back it up with facts, facts I would love to see because it would be enlightening to see how the Gaza campaign did anything to better anyone economically.  In truth the Gaza campaign was necessary, and sadly more campaigns will be in the future, because the ruling party of Gaza is sworn to the destruction of Israel and to the death of all Jews.  You somehow missed that in your long Op Ed professing your love for the Jewish people.

Allow me to teach you something you are required to learn if you do not want to be deemed an anti-Semite or someone who promotes anti-Semitism.  What you need to understand is more than just what you choose to see about an Israeli government.  What you need to grasp better is the concept of the modern State of Israel.

The State of Israel declared independence in 1948, 3 years removed from the murder of 6 millions Jews.  Or as your buddy Khaleed Meshaal says, a genocide only half as bad as what Israel committed in Gaza.  Israel was not set up as a way for Jews to colonize the entire Middle East or commit atrocities.  It was set up as a safe-haven, a guardian nation so to speak, for a race of people, my people incidentally, that was devastated in an unspeakable fashion.  The State of Israel was in somewhat set up as a nation designed to guarantee that what happened to the Jewish people under Hitler would indeed never happen again. So when you promote political and philosophical viewpoints that put the State of Israel in danger for its life, you don’t merely attack Benjamin Netanyahu and Likud, you attack Jews worldwide.  You may claim that you are not an anti-Semite, but your statements increase the likelihood of many dead Jews. Regardless of what you claim to be your intentions, it doesn’t get much more anti-Semitic than that.

I loved this line of yours in your Op Ed: “It is the exclusion of the sane majority that allows extremists to prosper. The insanity across the Middle East is so deeply terrifying and giddyingly futile that most people, despondent and bilious want to look away.”  And yet, no mention of Hamas.  No mention of terrorism.  No mention of how similar Hamas is to ISIS or how Israel gives more civil rights to their Muslim citizens than almost every Arab country. It seems like you almost get it sometimes, but then your personal bias or delusion takes over and you revert back to the Neo anti-Semite you so don’t want to be.  Cough cough.

Although most people seemed to like my first letter to you, there were some disturbed my personal attacks on you. I almost felt bad about it till I read how in referring to Bill O’Reilly you said he was “A hollering parasite of his own punctured anus,” and Sean Hannity you called a  “Fox News’ shop-dummy-polemicist.”  I feel much better about calling you an idiot and a coward now.  Something I still believe to be true.

Since you claim to believe in positive action, here’s a suggestion for some very positive action. Shut up.  You are actually doing more harm than good.  I know you think you are this generations Jesus, but in truth you are merely a court jester giving more Brits the ultimate justification to jump on a plane to Syria, (via Turkey) to sign up for ISIS and battle the west you clearly seem to hate so much.  Funny enough, it’s the same west that made you rich.  I think you need to realize there is something far worse than being so despondent and bilious that you want to look away.  It’s looking right at it and ignoring the truth.  Something anti-Semites are very good at.

Sincerely,

David Groen

Where were the “Humanitarians” while this List grew?

dtLong before it became the newest fad to feign concern for the well-being of the civilians in Gaza, Israeli civilians were being murdered by Hamas terrorists.  Blown up in Pizza places, malls, bus stops, murdered in their homes or anywhere the terrorists could find them. Young children, sometimes babies, often member of the same family. The following list is a partial list of civilians TARGETED.  They were not collateral damage. They were targeted and the criminals who targeted them were seen as heroes by the same people so many in the world choose to defend today.  Thank you to Baruch Bruno Sharaby for researching this list and posting it on a thread in Facebook.
