The Root Cause of today’s Terrorism. Thoughts of a friend-A Must Read

rts6w3n

With her permission I am posting this tremendous article written by my friend Alison Fisch Katz.  It assesses the root causes of modern-day terror as well as her thoughts on what needs to be done.  This is truly a MUST READ.

Yesterday’s attack on Paris did not emerge from a groundswell of socio-economic unease by local Muslims. To the contrary, people who migrate in order to better their situation are interested in survival and invest in their contribution to their adopted country. In fact they are usually beacons of the pluralistic ideal. Without losing their ethnic identity, they manage to take on local mores, excel in the education system, and often reach the highest political and cultural echelons of society. This is certainly true of Jewish & Indian Britons, Algerian French, & African Americans. Economic or social unease doesn’t usually lead to terrorism. Terrorism such as that witnessed by Parisians yesterday was indeed orchestrated by 8 members of ISIS who managed to cross the border via Germany together with the swathes of Syrian refugees currently swamping European borders. The war that the continent is now facing must be recognised as ideological in nature, based in a religion that is incompatible with western ideas of individual & democratic freedoms. The radical Islam that ISIS and similar groups espouse seeks to vanquish “infidel” communities from the world. They even say so. You just have to pay attention to their own published charters. Israel has long contended that the EU should not ostracize but rather embrace our efforts in the middle east because we know that the war we battle every day is not in fact territorial but religious. If the Israel/Palestinian conflict were about territory it would have been solved decades ago. Jerusalem itself has been on the negotiation table no less than 3 times, and each time was rejected outright by the Arab side. In kind, had the EU recognised the long term unstabling effects of the tribal war in Syria between the Allawis, Sunnis and Shiites (ISIS are Sunnis) and taken steps to curb it, it is possible that the great migration of this century could have been prevented and they would be far better equipped to deal with the wave of terror that radical Islam has unleashed. But it’s not only nations ISIS wishes to take over. It is also – in fact primarily – western ideas that they seek to uproot. Those ideas are embedded in the great symbols of European history: the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Place de la Republique to name just a few that immediately come to mind. France & Europe needs to either take fierce and unpopular steps to protect its heritage, or gird up the Arc de Triomphe and bury Leonardo’s Mona Lisa in a bunker somewhere until this dark age passes.

A Shining Light for us all

rodan_b

This past Sunday afternoon I was looking forward to watching the football game between Dallas and Green Bay when I decided to take a quick look at the major cable news channels’ coverage of the Paris terror attacks.  One hour later I was still watching CNN.  Part of the reason was the fact that I was somewhat moved by the significant coverage given to the murder of 4 Jewish people, something we as Jews are not accustomed to nowadays.  The main reason however was the courageous and eloquent representation of the plight of French Jews as put forth by Simone Rodan-Benzaquen.

Simone is the Director of the AJC, “American Jewish Committee”, and a long-time resident of Paris.  Her representation as a Jewish citizen of France  was what is known in Jewish teachings as a “Kiddush Hashem”.   Literally translated as a “Sanctification of God”, a Kiddush Hashem speaks to when a Jew’s behavior represents the people in a positive light, particularly to fellow Jews.  In the case of Simone, her representation was a Kiddush Hashem to the entire world.

Her accounting of the anti-Semitism that the Jews of France have been dealing with for many years was important for everyone to hear.  Thanks to people like Simone, we no longer live in a world where Jews remain silent when attacked, and no longer do they quietly hope it just goes away.  In fact, the most inspiring words she spoke were the words that spoke of French Jews not fleeing the country, but rather staying, fighting, and remaining in the country they have called home for quite some time.  She spoke positively of those who choose to go to Israel for ideological and positive reasons, but strongly encouraged no one to leave out of fear.  As someone who is staying and fighting, she has every right to make this bold and courageous statement.

I want to thank Simone Rodan-Benzaquen for her permission to write this piece, but most of all for standing up for all of us in defense of good over evil.  She is a shining light in this very dark world and I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for what she has done, and continues to do for all of us.  France may be in the forefront today, but we are all in this together.

Open Letter to Brigitte Bardot

BBArDear Ms. Bardot,

I’ll be honest.  I’m not even mad.  I actually feel sorry for you.  It seems as though you have not aged happily.  I say this because all your recent pictures make you look like a sourpuss and the only time anyone hears anything from you is when it has to do with animals.  I wouldn’t have said anything at all but since you decided to give your expert opinion about Jewish Dietary laws in your Open Letter, I decided to share my opinions with you in an Open Letter of my own.  The difference is, I have every intention of enjoying the writing of mine. You honestly don’t give the appearance of someone enjoying much of anything anymore, and that’s just sad.  For the record, I do hope I am wrong about that.

Anyway, you referred to Shechita, the Hebrew word for the Jewish ritual slaughter of animals, as a “ritual sacrifice.”  Well Ms. Bardot, as hard as you may find it to believe, I love animals as well as Kosher meat, especially when my mother or sister-in-law prepares it.  You see you can actually love both.  I don’t know if you’ve actually studied the process, but without getting into too much detail, the animals are killed in a way designed to eliminate as much suffering as possible.  So much so that one of the requirements is that the knife used must be sharpened extensively.  By the way, did you know that Jewish law looks so negatively on cruelty to animals that in its teachings it consider non-Jews to have 7 basic commandments, of which one is based on humane treatment of animals?  Although I don’t know that your comments are rooted in any anti-Jewish sentiment, especially with your track record on animals and the fact that you go after Halal rituals too, but they do show an ignorance to the careful process of Shechita.

But here is the issue I really have with all of this.  Like I said in the beginning of the letter, I love animals.  I really do.  I even choose not to have a dog because I’m afraid I wouldn’t give it the proper attention.  I really don’t like cats much, but other than gently pushing one away from me, I could never imagine using any type of physical force on one.  So I agree with the idea that mistreating animals is inhumane, so much so that it is correct that it be punishable under the law.

My problem is when someone who seems to not like people anymore and is high-profile like yourself puts animals way ahead of people.  I mean really. Shechita?  Now? Rising anti-Semitism in your native land and this is what you write a letter about?  Do you realize that your words in the name of humane treatment of animals may give additional fuel to those who want to hurt Jews, who are people by the way, more so in your country than maybe any other in Europe. Don’t get me wrong.  There is anti-Semitism in France whether you say anything or not, but this certainly doesn’t do anything to help.  And if you watch the news you’ll see there are a lot worse things going on, like beheadings, and terrorists overrunning countries and killing and raping and beheadings again.  It’s a nasty world out there. Especially now.  Shechita? Really?

So please, you want to help animals? So do I.  Maybe start by showing some compassion to people.  Because there are plenty of those who are defenseless as well. I know, well I don’t know but I’ve heard, that you are disappointed with people, but that really doesn’t mean you have to put animals first all the time.  Please don’t forget that people matter too.

Anyway, off to dinner.  Won’t tell you what I’m having though.  I don’t think you’d like it.

Sincerely,

David Groen

The Nuclear Scenario

Nuclear_bombIt’s the topic we don’t often bring up, but it’s always somewhere in our minds.  With all that is happening in the world one might think it is just a matter of time till we see the use of some form of a nuclear weapon.  It’s a terrifying thought and quite frankly one that makes no normal person happy, regardless of where it would be used.  We can choose to ignore the subject, a decision I would understand because of how frightening it is to imagine, but what I am going to do in this piece is break down the numerous scenarios in which it could happen.

I’ll start with the 5 countries that are members of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. They are the United States, Russia, United Kingdom, France and China.  I believe the least likely of the  to be presented with an option in which to go nuclear is China.  Of the remaining 4, only Russia finds itself in a conflict close to home, but the fact that it is so close to home is the very reason not to use it.  The concerning thing about Russia has always been that after the break up of the Soviet Union there was a concern that weapons were scattered in various locations. That fear has dissipated somewhat with the control Vladimir Putin seems to have over the area, but that being said, Russia is the country on the list I see as most susceptible to terrorist infiltration.  The remaining three are all facing the potential threats of terrorist attacks by Islamic terrorists and should an attack be serious enough and the source identifiable, one can’t take a nuclear response off the table.  That is something all would be reluctant to do unless the attack on them was nuclear, and even then it would be uncertain.

There are four other countries that are nuclear powers, three declared and not members of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and one which is not a declared nuclear power but widely known as being one. There are more scenarios here and they are all quite terrifying. The first two, India and Pakistan, are the ones that might be seen as most likely to use  a nuclear weapon on the other.  Although the tensions between the two have calmed somewhat over the years, these 2 countries still don’t like each other and have very different global interests.  I believe India would only consider doing so if forced into it  and I believe Pakistan under its current leadership would not use it.  But this is where it gets interesting.  The Taliban has a significant presence in Pakistan and with neighboring Afghanistan still unstable and dealing with its strong Taliban force, no one wants to even think about what would happen should Pakistan’s government be replaced with a government aligned with Islamic extremists, or even worse a Taliban government.  That would without doubt be a global game changer.

There are 2 countries left to speak of, one of which is the one undeclared nuclear power, Israel.  Israel, like the nations in the Non-Proliferation Treaty, will only go nuclear if absolutely necessary, meaning if it is a matter of survival.  Israel would not need nuclear weapons to wipe out Iran’s nuclear program and is more likely to keep Iran in check with the threat of reprisal should Iran get nuclear weapons and use one of its proxies to attack Israel.

I left North Korea for last.  This was not an accident.  It is unquestionably the most dangerous of all the nuclear powers.  Besides the fact that their dictator Kim Jong has repeatedly threatened the U.S., it’s believed that North Korea helped fund the building of Hamas’s terror tunnels from Gaza to Israel.  No one finds it hard to believe that Kim would have a problem providing Hamas or any other terrorist organization with a nuclear weapon.  Like Hamas, Kim Jong’s Korea doesn’t care about his own people so he would have no problem contributing to a genocide of another people.  I have no doubt Israel is watching him very closely.

The terrorism scenario is always out there of course, be it a conventional bomb or dirty bomb,  especially since there are groups that have declared their willingness and desire to cause devastation in large western cities, most notably New York City.

All this is conjecture, but with all the conflicts going on today anything can happen at any time.  Let’s hope this doesn’t.

Husna Ali’s Diary: circa 2020

The following is what a diary of a 16-year-old girl in Michigan might end up looking like in the year 2020. It’s a frightening testament to where the world may be going and reflects what so many think is the ambition of Muslim extremists.

Kora.0

I had a very busy day today. I finished my last final in school and then did more to prepare to go to my summer camp. I am very grateful that my father will let me go. He said I was good with my teachers and that he would let me go because when I get back he will have me meet my future husband and prepare to be a wife and mother.

I asked my father if we would be all be going to spend the weekend in New Mecca but he said that the hotels in Manhattan Island were too expensive in the summer and that it would be better if we go in the winter when the snow is there and the pre-Ramadan sales are happening.

Last year we went to the Islamic Republic of France for summer vacation and that was nice. I remember the time we spent in Chirac City. The Eiffel Tower was so lovely. I want to go again.

I made some new friends on the internet. There was one boy who seemed very nice but I did not talk too long. I do not want to say something wrong and put my parents in danger. I remember last year when Sumeka’s father had to spend one month in jail because she said something about sex on the internet. I don’t want to do that to my father. He is a good man and he lets my mother have friends and even read modern books. I hope he will find me a good man like him.

It is much easier now to find good people in our world since the great new age. My parents had to live through the evil times when the Zionists controlled our country and made everyone do what they wanted for the corrupt government they had in Palestine. Now, praised be Allah, we are all one people and live as decent people.

I don’t understand how anyone ever enjoyed the immoral movies and music we once had here. Now it is much better. We have movies about how our heroes who changed the world and bought the revolution that freed us from the slavery of desire and ambition. Now we are all one and the world is filled with men and women who know their place and all desire to be worshippers of Allah.

I am excited about summer camp. It is near the nation’s capital in Nasrallah, Michigan and will allow us to learn much and learn more about how to behave as good wives and mothers. I will try to write more later but now I must pray and then clean my brothers’ room.

If anti-Semitism in Europe is the appetizer, wait till you see the main course.

249Anyone who knows even a little history knows that this is not Europe’s first go at anti-Jewish sentiment and actions.  However, this time around there are some significant differences, differences that could lead to the end of Europe as we now know it.

Traditionally anti-Semitism in Europe was government sanctioned.  The Spanish inquisition, Russian pogroms, Nazi Germany, Stalin’s U.S.S.R., all consisted of horrors and destruction for the Jews that were carried out by the ruling parties of each of these regimes.  In each one of these examples Jews were being eliminated because they were fraudulently declared a threat to the environment being created and were therefore, for all intents and purposes, illegal and harmful residents.  Today however, regardless of whether you call any particular nation in Europe a friend of the Jews or not, the anti-Semitism being generated comes more from mobs than governments.  At least for now.

These mobs are primarily organized and dominated by the Muslim communities of various countries.  Nothing represents the advancement of the Muslim cause in Europe more than France, where the mobs have turned so hateful and violent, Jews are starting to pick up and leave.  The behavior of these mobs is the precursor to what will ultimately be a much bigger issue in Europe, a radical new demographic.  That’s a technical way of saying an Islamic takeover.

I do not make this statement to be racist.  I would love to see a world where we all can live together in peace.  I know there are good and bad people in all races and religions, and yes, I have met many good Muslims.  But I also know, that only one group has leaders in their midst declaring a desire for world domination, a term not connected to such a significant threat since the days of Adolph Hitler.  Ironic that the Jews are being called Nazis, isn’t it?  I understand the Muslim fanatics drawing the comparison because it gets the people going and helps their cause.  Although they should know, that even though Hitler may have killed the Jews first, in a Europe such as the one we see today, if a Hitler-type rises to power, the Muslims would at worst be second.

The stupidity in all of this however is with the non-Muslims in Europe who are taking the side against Israel and the Jews.  I am not referring to decent people who are saddened by the events taking place in Gaza.  I am referring to those who are falling for the propaganda machine being used against Israel and the Jews, a machine getting a trial run before it takes on its much bigger target, anyone not Muslim.  Those who feel these mobs will stop at the Jews is not only not paying attention to what is happening, they are not being honest about its source.  If these mobs care so much about dead children, where have they been till now?  Ask them how many children have been murdered in Syria? Or better yet, tell them.  Over 9,000.  Let me repeat that.  Over 9,000 children have been killed in Syria. Where are the mobs protesting that?  Where are the signs equating the Syrian flag with the Swastika?  Then there is Mosul, a city of 1.8 million.  Interesting number.  Why?  Because Gaza has 1.8 million residents. But here is the difference.  150,000 Christians were recently attempting to flee because if they did not they would be slaughtered or forced to convert like those Christians that did not leave.  I am sure there are thousands of children in that number as well, but unlike Gaza, where the Israeli government actually wants people to see the truth, Mosul is unreachable by the press.  This allows ISIS to run rampant murdering and destroying anyone and anything they feel doesn’t help towards their goal of an Islamic Caliphate.  Where are the mobs protesting this?  Where are the signs comparing ISIS to Nazis?  Nowhere.

My point is that for these mobs it is not about the concern for the well-being of children, it is either about pushing their agenda or voicing their hatred for Jews.  When the time comes that governments need to fight against evil entities such as ISIS in Iraq or Boko Haram in Nigeria, or a nuclear Iran, just to keep Europe and the rest of the civilized world safe, the mobs will form all over again, and just like they are doing now, will pretend it is about dead babies.
