Today’s humanitarian:All Talk and no Action

article-2698331-1FCB64DE00000578-120_634x419As the world figuratively and in some places literally burns, where are all the humanitarians now?  I have never had a problem with those who have been upset with the deaths of civilians in Gaza, but it’s the rest of their behavior which reflects how disingenuous they often are.  A few weeks back I made mention of Pope Francis and how much I appreciated the way in which he discussed the events taking place in the world.  He pleaded to everyone fighting to stop fighting, practically crying to God in prayer. He has emphasized his concern over the last few days over the situation in Iraq, once again showing his understanding for what is happening in the world. Too many people however have taken a very different approach.

Gaza has been a popular cause.  One might even call the support for Gaza the latest fad, kind of like when Darfur was hot.  Once it was “Save Darfur”, now it’s “Free Gaza”.  People, some famous, many not famous, use these causes to show others and sometimes themselves, how good they are.  What caring people they are.  In reality they’re just followers lining up behind what they are hearing as important in the media without even knowing what is really happening on the ground.  Ask these same “Free Gaza” people, and I guarantee you they were many of the same “Save Darfur” people, what the situation in Darfur is today.  Ask them to name 2 cities in Gaza.  I’m very confident the answer to both would be the same, “I don’t know.”  Then ask them why they don’t open their mouth or protest the actions of ISIS and see what kind of response you get. I doubt it will be a very logical or intelligent one.  After all, Iraq isn’t a hot fad, at least not yet.

Its gets even worse with the high-profile people or agency workers or leaders.  Most likely the UN is busier investigating Israel for war crimes than it is addressing the humanitarian crisis and genocide taking place in Iraq.  Where are those who had so much to say about Gaza now?  Some of them are even Christians remaining silent to the horrors taking place against Christians.  For the athletes or entertainers that spoke out about Gaza, they are not much different from the sheep I referred to earlier.  For the agency heads and politicians that remain silent now, the behavior is nothing short of abhorrent and destroys any credibility they may have had.  Their neglect for their responsibilities not only doesn’t help the problem, it contributes to it by strengthening the resolve of the truly evil.  Whether or not it’s about money, politics or neglect, it’s clear that their humanitarianism in the end is a lot more talk than action.

Israel’s Way or the Hard Way

Israeli-FlagOne must ask themselves this question.  Should Israel continue to fight fairly? Ever since the U.S. started fighting in Iraq we’ve heard a lot of talk about fighting a clean war, a moral war.  War by definition is not moral.  It is killing and destruction and no one decent is ever happy when it takes place.  To quote my mother, “When there is a war, no one wins”.  My mother Sipora Groen, is a 92-year-old Holocaust survivor from Holland, very pro-Israel, and very aware of the need to destroy the enemy.  Her statement is based on the understanding that even the victorious suffer pain and loss no one should ever have to endure.  Even with self-defense and survival forcing good people into war, war never becomes a good thing.  With that being said, she understands, as so many do, that Israel is exercising its right to self-defense, which makes its mission a vital and moral one.  What has made Israel’s behavior during this war so remarkable is that it has not sunk to the depths of the enemy, an enemy with no moral restrictions.  This has ironically given the enemy some advantages on the battlefield and on the world stage.  Seeing that the defeat of the enemy is crucial, should Israel sink to the level of Hamas?

Simple answer is, only if it is the difference between victory and defeat.  The levels in which this war is being waged most unethically are primarily twofold. First and foremost is of course the manipulation and use of the civilians of Gaza, either through exploiting their injuries in the press or even worse, causing the casualties through the use of human shields.  The second is through lying, either through transparent omission or blatant distortion of the facts.  The fact that those unwilling to support Israel will not do so regardless of what the truth is, is clearly stated  by the same facts they use to attack Israel in the media.  Israel has allowed full disclosure to the press, has clearly stated its objectives, and has provided open information on all incidents that have taken place since the start of the operation.  Other than providing blueprints for its attack strategy, Israel could not do any more than it has.  Hamas on the other hand hides from the press, intimidates the press, and consistently makes statements contradictory to its actions.  A very logical assumption would be, if what you are doing is right, you want the whole world to know about it.  So from the media standpoint the answer is simple.  If Israel is going to be attacked by those that hate it, there is no benefit in sinking to that level of lying the enemy has been using from the very beginning.

However, militarily speaking, if Hamas continues to attempt to draw Israel into a war of attrition, Israel may have no other choice but to change tactics. It comes down to one very simple point, one I have no doubt is in the heads of everyone in Israel’s cabinet.  If protecting Palestinian civilians puts Israeli civilians in more serious and prolonged danger, Palestinian civilians will no longer be considered in the strategic assessment.  As long as Israel can maintain its high moral ground it will, but ultimately unless something happens to stop Hamas, Israel will be left with no other choice but to inflict damage in Gaza that will make Hamas and the residents look back at the situation on the ground today as a relative picnic.  It is a choice Hamas and the Palestinians need to make, and in my estimation one they need to make soon or suffer dire consequences.

It never was about Gaza or Dead Babies

I am posting this very short clip about rising anti-Semitism in Europe for one important reason. It was made February of 2013 and talks about the rise of hate crimes against Jews in the year 2012. Guess these “humanitarians” don’t really care about the people of Gaza. It wasn’t about them then and it isn’t about them now.

The Good the Bad and the Ugh

isisiBefore I address some serious concerns I want to recognize a few positives coming out of the events of the past 12 hours.  First and foremost it is good to see our administration finally taking action on the foreign stage.  The threat from ISIS, ISIL, or IS, whatever they call themselves today is so real and has been met with so little resistance that it was very important for the U.S. to take this action of what they are calling targeted airstrikes.   The second positive is that despite the pressure the administration has put on Israel during the most recent Gaza campaign, this action sends a message of the clear distinction in the administration’s philosophy towards Israel’s military action and the actions taking place by ISIS in Iraq.

That’s the good news.  Now the concerns. The second point I made about how this makes a clear distinction, immediately makes me think of a saying in Dutch.  The saying is, “U wordt bedankt”, literally means, “you get thanks” and is akin to saying “thanks a lot” sarcastically.  The fact that I even thought that it indicated a distinction shows that the administration has clearly not been as openly pro-Israel as it should be.  To many that is a serious problem that needs to be fixed and may only be fixed when a new American administration takes over.

The second concern is more complex and potentially far more serious.  Will these airstrikes really make a difference?  Yes they look good and yes they may save many lives now, but unless ISIS, ISIL, IS, whatever they are called is stopped, I believe they won’t stop till they call themselves IS-Rael or IS-US.  A malignant tumor can get shrunk by targeted radiation, but can only be cured by chemotherapy, surgery, or both.  Targeted airstrikes are akin to radiation and may slow down the disease temporarily, but they do not eliminate it. Nothing about this administration’s actions till now indicates it has the stomach or desire to see a tough battle to its conclusion, and to damage these people without crippling them may do nothing more than help them grow and give them extra motivation to strike on U.S. soil sooner than they probably had planned.

There is no question that a good action is better than no action, but at the end of the day it is important that the good action doesn’t have the same impact as no action, which will be the case if it is not followed up properly.  Let’s hope and pray that it is.

The Truth about Hamas and Journalism from a CNN panelist

SE_Cupp-2

CNN’ S.E. Cupp nails the Israel-Gaza conflict.  She has clarity about what Hamas’s intentions are and has the character to attack her peers for leaving out critical points that change the entire perspective.

CLICK TO HEAR HER EXPERT ANALYSIS. IT WILL BE A 2 1/2 MINUTES WELL SPENT

This is as good and fair as an assessment as you will find of what Hamas really is and the negative impact the media has when it tactically or irresponsibly omits some important facts.  Ms. Cupp’s points are made brilliantly and all she really does it state facts.  It’s brilliant and I highly recommend listening to what she has to say.  After this I’ll be looking for more of her comments.

Of course

IDF reports the cease-fire has been violated by Hamas.

Coming Soon to an anti-Semitic stage near you:More Israel Bashing

gazaflagIf Hamas is telling the truth, and this is the one time it actually might be, fighting between Israel and the terrorist organization will resume tomorrow. They have made it clear that unless Israel removes the naval blockade and allows Gaza an active port they will resume hostilities when the cease-fire expires.  With an open port Hamas would be able to receive unlimited amounts of weapons from its supporters, bastions of morality like Iran, Qatar and North Korea.  As obvious as it should be that removing the blockade would be devastating to Israel’s security, and as obvious as it will be that Hamas is the one resuming the fighting, be prepared for another round of Israel bashing when civilians once again get killed because the leadership of Hamas has no respect for human life.  Those who hate Israel and the Jewish people will only be happy if they are willing to take a beating, which thank God they are not.  Stay tuned for the predictable.

Creating Desperation: The Hamas Way

When World War I ended and Germany was defeated, their punishment for being the aggressors was so severe the economy plunged into depths that caused poverty and hunger of immense proportions.  I am not condemning this, merely stating this to address the circumstances leading to the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.  Hitler fed off of the desperation of the German people, found a perfect scapegoat, and promised Germans a better life.  All they had to do was follow his leadership regardless of how evil and heinous the outcome.  He took their awful life and promised a good one, in the process convincing the masses the suffering of others was of no consequence. As we all know the strategy worked with tragic precision and Hitler reigned in Germany till his defeat by the allies in 1945.  Hitler used the suffering of the German people to push his agenda, and like many fascist regimes before him the process was successful.

One can hope and pray that history will show that Israel never allowed Hamas to grow into the killing machine the Nazi party was, but it certainly wont be for lack of trying.  What sets Hamas apart in the early stages of its rule over its people is something even more cynical and morally repugnant than the Nazis in their establishment of control over their people.  While the Nazis took the pain and suffering of the people to establish the regime, Hamas has actually created the pain and suffering to create theirs.  Israel left Gaza to its own means in 2005, and as Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer said, “we hoped it would become a Singapore,  instead it became an Iran”,  implying what could have become a booming economy, technologically advanced, with a secure present and optimistic future became just the opposite.  Hamas took their funding and rather than help the population, they became Iran’s proxy, training terrorists, building terror tunnels and making their corrupt leadership perversely wealthy while keeping the money out of the hands of the community.  Rather than having to answer for their misappropriation, they used the suffering it caused to channel their desperation into hatred and the belief that death was better than life. With the life they gave them in Gaza it was an easy sell.  The video in this piece shows what happens to people when they feel the best outcome to their life is death.

While Hitler took the desperation he found and turned it into mass hysteria with his promises of a better life, Hamas has formed a new and cynical blueprint.  Create the desperation and then promise a better life, even if it is through murder and suicide.
